Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced the release of the GST-B300, the latest addition to the G-STEEL line of G-SHOCK shock-resistant watches. The GST-B300 is the first G-STEEL watch with a front button, which adopts a new Carbon Core Guard structure that delivers superior shock resistance by leveraging the lightness and outstanding rigidity of carbon fiber.

For the GST-B300 with front button design, Casio developed a new Carbon Core Guard structure, which protects the module with a carbon case. Highly durable carbon fiber-reinforced resin is added not only to the center case, but also to the front and side button guards, providing even stronger resistance to shocks from above or below, or from any side.

The battery indicator at the 6 o’clock position, designed to evoke a brake disk, shows the remaining battery power by an arrow pointer and a curved red bar, providing visually interesting ways to check the battery.

As for functions, in addition to automatic time adjustment via Bluetooth® when paired with a dedicated smartphone app, the watch features world time setting for over 300 cities as well as various alarm and countdowin timer settings, all easy to use. It is also equipped with other practical functions such as the Tough Solar, solar charging system developed by Casio, and a high-luminosity full auto double LED light.

G-Shock emphasizes in literature released with the watch that in addition to that signature toughness we've come to expect, the GSTB300 has "updated technical features" like that Carbon Core Guard Structure shoring up the case strength as well as Tough Solar Power.

Responding initially to the site’s steeply rising topography, a vertically structured house reveals itself as the obvious design for this lake house. Leveraging the home's tall stature, living spaces culminate at the top floor, set just above the tree line and providing nearly a 180 degree view of the lake beyond. 

The third floor north facing glazed wall offers unobstructed views of the lake, while punched openings give glimpses of the rugged hillside behind, showcasing the counterpointed landscapes. 

Emphasizing the site’s two uniquely juxtaposed landforms — water and rugged hillside — the third floor's cantilevered deck reaches out toward the lake while a bridge anchors into the hillside, connecting the house to its surrounding landscape.

Four separate bedroom retreats are tucked below on the lower two floors. All circulation runs exterior, allowing its guests to further immersion into the outdoors and an appreciation for leaving the city behind to enjoy a weekend getaway.

Summer House · Lake Arresø · Denmark | Architec: Christensen & Co

Christensen & Co with Pernille Poulsen. Summerhouse at Lake Arresø. Denmark. 

The site is located in the woodlands between the coastline and the lake of Arresø on the Nothern part of the island of Zealand. A clearing was created in the dense vegetation, leaving a few trees to provide shade and to create a sense of depth on the site. The summer cottage is, in essence a timber clad raft, supported by a number of wooden pillars. The cottage hovers just above the grass.

The raft folds up and around the internal space and the ceiling ends in a large cantilevered canopy which stretches out above the terrace. The fold creates a simple frame around the internal space and terrace which works as one space with large sliding doors which connects the inside with the outside. The facades are clad in black horizontal boards, while the underside of the cantilever is clad with slim, untreated timber louvers beneath translucent panels allowing fine strips of sunlight into the house.
